Official Visit May 2004The Official Visit from Itteville to Newick took place over the bank holiday weekend of May 29th-31st 2004. Our visitors arrived on the evening of Friday 28th, having left Itteville in the morning and travelled via the Dieppe-Newhaven ferry. The weather was kind, and they had enjoyed a calm crossing. The Friday evening and Saturday daytime were spent at leisure with their hosts. Some families travelled to London, whereas others visited more local attractions. Despite dire weather forecasts earlier in the week, it stayed fine and warm. On the Saturday evening, we all travelled to Plumpton Village Hall and enjoyed an excellent buffet-style dinner, washed down with wine which had been kindly provided by our visitors. Entertainment was laid on in the shape of Belly Dancing and Line Dancing. On the Sunday, we travelled by coach to Rye, and spent several hours exploring the historic streets and buildings of this ancient Cinque port. We explained to our visitors that Rye had been fortified to counter the many invasions threatened by the French over the centuries. Fortunately, our French invasion was of a more benign kind! Mermaid Street, RyeAfter returning to Newick, hosts and their guests enjoyed an evening meal en famille, and the Ittevillois departed from The Green on the Monday morning. On returning to Itteville, one of the children who travelled to Newick wrote an article about the visit to England. |
