About Us

Newick Twinning Association was established in 1992. Our aim is to foster
good relations with other countries in Europe, and to establish warm
personal friendships between the people of our village and our European
counterparts. As well as these serious objectives, we also have a lot of
fun!
We are twinned with Itteville, in the départment of Essonne, France.
Itteville is set in beautiful countryside, about 55 km (35 miles) south of
Paris. Although we have no immediate plans to do so, we are also looking in
the longer term to develop relationships with other countries.
We are a non-political organisation and receive no public money. All our
financial resources are derived from members' subscriptions and the various
fund-raising events which we arrange every year.
You don't have to speak French to join us. Our members' linguistic
abilities range from fluent to virtually non-existent, encompassing on the
way those of us who learnt French at school but have forgotten most of it!
One of the great things about Twinning is that you find you can develop
good and lasting friendships, even if you don't speak each other's language.
Sign-language, Franglais (occasionally laced, dare we say it, with a glass
or two of wine!) all help to break down the barriers.
Of course, you don't have to visit France, and you don't have to act as a
host for our French friends when they visit us. You can participate in as
many, or as few, of our activities as you wish. There is no pressure. The
main thing is to promote international friendship and enjoy yourself.
